Youth Serving Youth 2015-2017
Since 1925, Key Club International has provided more than 12 million hours of service to homes, schools and communities each year. From building bridges, to collecting over six tons of food, thousands of dollars raised for cancer research, helping eliminate iodine deficiency disorder, Key Club International plays a vital role in serving the children of the world.
Every Key Club has the authority to select its own service projects because there usually are many more service needs in a community than there are service clubs and agencies to meet them. However, all PA Key Clubs are asked to participate in the YSY.

“Children: Their Future, Our Focus”
In 1946, Key Club International challenged all Key Clubs and members to focus energies on making an international impact. This program was followed until 2014 through the International Major Emphasis: “Children: Their Future, Our Focus.”
To fulfill the mission of the YSY, PA Key Club serves children in many ways. Members participate in the hands-on International Major Emphasis, currently The Eliminate Project, and fundraise for Key Club International’s partner organizations: Children’s Miracle Network, March of Dimes, and UNICEF.
This year, our Youth Serving Youth project is Early Childhood Education!
What is Early Childhood Education?
Key Club has chosen Early Childhood Education because proper early childhood development is critical for all children. 90% of brain development occurs between birth and the age of 5. With your help, Key Club plans to help maximize children’s development during these years through our YSY.
The Pennsylvania District has set a service goal for each club to volunteer at least 75 hours towards educating youth. If each club reaches this goal, our District will have served over 10,000 hours for Early Childhood Education. This year’s YSY provides a great opportunity to raise funds for the Pennsylvania Kiwanis Foundation’s educational booklet, Every Day I Learn Through Play. This publication provides activities and guidelines to help parents educate their children from birth to age two. We, Key Clubbers, have a wonderful opportunity to help Kiwanis get a copy of this booklet in every household, free of charge, to help ensure that children begin learning at the proper age.
Education of our youth is an investment in everyone’s future. We hope you are willing to join the District’s efforts in providing education to children across Pennsylvania! Be sure to take a look at the Call to Action so you and your club can take the right steps to serve our youth.
