District Convention 2016 Recap
Hundreds of people attended this years Pennsylvania District Convention at the Penn Stater Hotel in State College. Key Clubbers from all over the district met and enjoyed a majestic weekend beginning on Friday. March 11th to Sunday, March 13.
The first day began with opening session where our 2015-2016 Immediate Past Governor, Lindsey Macgregor, called to order and addressed us to start off our fairy tale themed convention. After that, our PA Kiwanis District Governor, Jen Vare, welcomed us with a heart warming introduction to the reason why she joined the Kiwanis family and continues to serve her community. We also had a very special guest to address our keynote speech later in the session. Coming all the way from Springfield, Missouri, Kyle Scheele, an inspiring speaker and writer took the stage to warm us up about the magic of service. After the session, all Key Clubbers were invited to a night of fun at our Meet and Serve, in which participants were split among the many different prince and princesses (pictured below!) to compete in fairy tale themed mini-games!
The second day began with zone caucuses where Key Clubbers went to listen to candidates running for the district’s executive board . The candidates gave a speech and answer any questions regarding their position. After caucusing , Key Clubbers broke up into groups based on their choice of workshops. These workshops sought to improve each individual’ Key Clubber’s leadership and role in their home club. After four rounds of work shops, certain members attended the House of Delegates to vote for the candidates of the executive board. After the House of Delegates, Key Clubbers had a fancy dinner and prepared for the Recognition session. Many awards were given out and great services were recognized. Key Clubbers would then end the night with a jam at the dance!
On the final day of convention, many goodbyes were said at the Farewell session. The 2015-2016 District board was now retired and the 2016-2017 District board was inducted. The closing brought everyone together with a sentimental but inspiring end of the year slideshow. To conclude the convention, Lindsey MacGregor closed the session with great motivation and enthusiasm for the next year of Key Club!
